The future residents embarked on a remarkable journey: building their dream home on an open site waiting to be filled. What began as a search for balance and identity evolved into a story of vision, collaboration, and making choices that truly matter. Together with architect Egide Meertens, the foundation was laid for a super-modern villa—clean and contemporary in appearance, yet radiating warmth and personality.
The search for the perfect brick
It soon became clear that the façade would be the defining element. The couple didn’t want a standard solution, but a unique expression that would honor Egide’s design. Finding the right brick, however, became a journey of doubt, comparison, and reconsideration.
In the end, the choice wasn’t for a single brick, but for a blend: 90% Franklin and 10% R Banks. This combination offered exactly what they had been searching for. Franklin provided the sleek, modern foundation, while R Banks, with its subtle nuances, added just enough depth to bring the façade to life. A personal mix—and thus, a personal signature.
Tailor-made down to the smallest detail
But the true strength of this project lies in the details. Beyond standard bricks, Joseph Bricks supplied a full range of bespoke solutions: slips, corner slips, plinth slips, and even plinth corner slips. Thanks to these specials, the minimalist lines of the design could be continued seamlessly. The result? A monolithic façade without compromise. It is precisely this refinement that makes the difference between an ordinary façade and one that feels perfected in every aspect.
The architect’s verdict
Architect Egide Meertens highlights the importance of material choice:
“For this project, we were looking for a light-colored, nuanced brick in a slim format, to further emphasize the home’s horizontal character. Joseph Bricks’ stones offered exactly the expressiveness and quality we were after. Thanks to the Franklin and R Banks combination, paired with flush jointing and the use of slips in cantilevers and ceilings, we were able to create an extremely stylized whole. It is precisely these refined details that make the difference and elevate the project to a higher level.”

What began with questions and uncertainty ended in pride. The result is a unique home that reflects not only the architect’s vision but also the personal taste and wishes of the future residents.
