Our commitment to Sustainable Construction

Here at Joseph Bricks, we believe in a sustainable future. As a manufacturer, we play an important role in sustainable construction. Every day, we strive to have a positive impact on the environment and to reduce our carbon footprint. While this is an ongoing process, we’d like to share some of the steps we’ve already taken.

One of the most important characteristics of our facing bricks is their durability. Thanks to the exceptional quality of our clay, our bricks will last at least 100 years. This contributes to the long life of any buildings built with our bricks while also promoting a circular economy. This reduces the need for frequent replacements and consumption of precious raw materials.

Another aspect we focus on is our Eco-smoking process. Contrary to the common practice of baking and braising in different locations, here at Joseph Bricks we have developed an innovative approach. We cool our stones to 800 degrees and braise them immediately, without reheating them. This leads to considerably lower gas consumption and lower CO2 emissions. Furthermore, reducing the transportation between baking and smoking locations means less packaging and a further reduction in our ecological impact.

Recycling also plays an important role in our sustainability efforts. We recycle old building materials by adding finely ground bricks to our clay. This means we give used materials a new life while simultaneously minimising the need for new raw materials. This contributes to a reduction in waste and stimulates the development of a circular economy.

We take other measures to promote sustainability as well. For example, we make full use of electronic lift trucks, reducing harmful gas emissions and improving air quality. Moreover, we are proud of our zero discharge status, which involves ensuring our waste water does not end up in the sewer. We recycle all our water or let it evaporate to hydrogen. These efforts to conserve valuable resources and protect the environment are critical to a sustainable future.
